Welcome to Atelier Keika!

We are an atelier of the Sogetsu school of ikebana in the Wallonia region of Belgium.

What is Sogetsu?

Sogetsu ikebana is a new and free style of ikebana, which is always based on the motto “anytime, anywhere, for anyone” and uses all kinds of materials, without being bound by “forms”. So you can enjoy it to the fullest using materials available here in Belgium.

Many flower arrangers who become famous on TV are from Sogetsu. That’s how free and artistic it is.

The lessons are very systematic and easy to learn by following the textbook. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed so that once you have mastered the basics, you will naturally develop your eye. The curriculum is the same all over the world, so you can continue taking lessons even if you move abroad.

About myself

I, Keika Teshima, am Japanese and have lived in Belgium for more than 20 years.

I wanted to make the most of my Japanese identity here, so I studied Sogetsu ikebana from a Japanese master who also lives in Belgium.
I have a Shihan diploma from the Sogetsu head office in Tokyo.
I can give lessons in French and English as well as Japanese.

Course offer

We welcome 2 students per class to ensure quality instruction.
If you would like a course for a larger group, please contact us.

The course is divided into three cycles in which you will study 5 textbooks.

Elementary Cycle
In these 2 modules and 40 sessions, you go through the Sogetsu 1 and 2 manuals.
We use the method called “Kakeiho” to familiarise you with the different varieties of plants in order to understand their characteristics and to learn the basic rules and techniques of composition.

Intermediate Cycle
In these 2 modules and 40 additional sessions you will go through the Sogetsu 3 and 4 manuals.
This cycle allows you to deepen your study of the elements that make up ikebana: line, colour, mass, materials and space.

Advanced Cycle
In the 30 sessions of this cycle you will work on technique, design and the 50 rules of Sogetsu.

Later on, other modules will be possible in the advanced cycle.

After each module, you can take an exam to obtain the certificate issued by the Sogetsu Association of Tokyo, subject to success. There is a fee for this certificate. It is optional and only necessary if you wish to qualify to teach.
